Uptown Congregations Coming Together To Demand Climate Justice
Six congregations in Washington Heights and Inwood will hold a "Faiths 4 Climate Justice" event on Oct. 17 to call for change.

UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — Six Washington Heights and Inwood Christian and Jewish congregations will host a local gathering together on Oct. 17 as part of the worldwide Faiths 4 Climate Justice event happening across the world.
The half a dozen Upper Manhattan congregations will "sound the alarm for climate justice and demand action by governments, financial institutions as part of a global, multi-faith action day," a news release reads.
The event will take place on 185th Street and Fort Washington Avenue, in front of the Hebrew Tabernacle Synagogue, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 17.

Other congregations participating alongside the Hebrew Tabernacle Synagogue will be the Fort Tryon Jewish Center, Our Saviour's Atonement Church, Iglesia Nuevas Buenas, Beth Am - the People's Temple, and the Holyrood/Santacruz Church.

"Right here in Washington Heights/Inwood they've seen subways and basements flooded and know asthma is an epidemic in our communities," a news release for the event reads.
During the Washington Heights "Faiths 4 Climate Justice," signatures will be collected in support of New York City's Climate and Community Investment Act.
The event in Washington Heights will be among over 120 being held across the world in solidarity with religious and spiritual communities not standing idly by "while many of those who have the power to stop the Earth's desecration do nothing."
