UPPER MANHATTAN, NY — At the beginning of the omicron surge in New York City, Lower Manhattan was posting the highest COVID rates in the borough. That trend has now flipped to Upper Manhattan.

In the span of a week, the 10040 ZIP code, which covers the area from around West 187th Street to Dyckman Street, has gone from a COVID positivity rate of 8.34 percent to 20.05 percent.

From Dec. 19 to Dec. 25, one in every five residents getting tested for COVID in the 10040 ZIP code was testing positive for the virus.
