WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY – The Audubon USPS Post Office in Washington Heights will be renamed this weekend in honor of the late community activist Normandia Maldonado.

A post office renaming celebration will be hosted by Rep. Adrian Espaillat (NY-13) on Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. Espaillat will be joined by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Senator Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY).

“Ms. Maldonado was a true pioneer – she advanced and elevated the Dominican culture tenfold through her creative work, activism, and community organizing,” Espaillat said in a prepared statement. “Her influence can be traced across the diaspora – and, especially in New York City where her memory still looms and her work continues to flourish and inspire. With the official renaming of the post office off 165th Street after the passing of my bill, I am certain Ms. Normandia Maldonado’s achievements and legacy will continue to inspire the people of New York City and the greater Dominican diaspora for generations to come.”
