Wash Heights Private School Named Among 100 Best In NYC

The Washington Heights private school was also named among the 10 best all-boys schools in the five boroughs. Find out which.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A school in Washington Heights was just named among the 100 best private schools in New York City for the 2021-2022 academic year.

Yeshiva University High School for Boys at 2540 Amsterdam Avenue, between West 186th and 187th Streets, is the 77th best private school in the city, the eighth-best all-boys high school, and the seventh-best Jewish school, according to a list compiled by the school-ranking website Niche.

Yeshiva University High School for Boys has 280 students in grades 9-12, with a student-teacher ratio of seven to one. It is also a boarding school.

The city's elite private schools are known for promoting intense academic study among their students while offering many opportunities for achievement in sports and creative arts.

With that reputation comes a great cost.

The best private schools in the city often have applications (and tuition) that resemble most four-year universities, so if you're trying to get your kid into one, you'd better be prepared.

The tuition at Yeshiva University High School for Boys is $26,750 for "the highest grade offered." After graduation, 98 percent of students go on to attend a four-year college, according to Niche.

For tuition comparison, the Trinity School, which was ranked by Niche as the best private school in the city, costs $47,965 a year "for the highest grade offered."

Yeshiva University High School for Boys was founded in 1916.

The best private school rankings are "rigorous analysis of key statistics and millions of reviews from students and parents using data from the U.S. Department of Education.," according to Niche. Ranking factors include SAT/ACT scores, the quality of colleges that students consider, student-teacher ratio, private school ratings.

No other Washington Heights private schools made Niche's list of the 100 best in New York City.
