Washington Heights Cellphone Store Robbed At Gunpoint: Police

The stick up man pretended to be a customer at the uptown Boost Mobile before drawing a gun and threatening employees for cash.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man who robbed a Washington Heights cellphone store at gunpoint, police said.

A man entered the Boost Mobile store on Amsterdam Avenue and West 161st street around 5 p.m. Sunday and engaged a store employee in a conversation, police said. The man pretended to be an interested customer, but drew a gun on the employee when the employee took him to the cash register, police said.

The stick up man threatened the worker and demanded they hand over money from the store's register, police said. The employee complied and handed the man $400 in cash, police said. The store worker was not injured during the robbery.

Police described the suspect as a man in his 30s with a medium complexion and a medium build. The stick up man was last seen wearing a red winter hat, a tan and red bubble jacket, a black hoodie, black gloves, gray jeans, red boots and a tan and brown backpack.
