WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — Two Democratic City Council incumbents, Shaun Abreu and Carmen De La Rosa, swept the competition during Election Day in Washington Heights, where there were contested races for mayor, comptroller, public advocate, Manhattan borough president, Manhattan district attorney, and City Council districts 7 and 10.

"Tonight’s results are a clear message from the people of Upper Manhattan: they want to continue to see progress toward cleaner streets, affordable housing, and great schools," Councilmember Shaun Abreu, one of the winners on Tuesday night, told Patch.

"I’m going to be cleaning up our streets, building supportive and affordable housing, advocating for more representative and effective community boards, standing up against Trump, investing in mental health and public safety, and continuing above all else to elevate the voices of my constituents. I'm more ready than ever to keep delivering real results for our neighborhoods."

Once all the votes are tallied and certified by the New York City Board of Elections, the official final totals will be announced. All results are unofficial until the Board of Elections certifies them.
