Washington Heights-Inwood: Meet Your New Politicians

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — There were no surprises in northern Manhattan on Tuesday evening, as Democrats swept the races — mostly in landslide fashion.

The biggest winner was Adriano Espaillat, who claimed the U.S. Congress seat vacated by Charlie Rangel's retirement after four decades representing the area. Espaillat was not even challenged on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Espaillat's endorsees Marisol Alcantara and Carmen De La Rosa, also claimed easy wins. De La Rosa did so unchallenged.

13th Congressional District (Washington Heights/Inwood/Harlem/Bronx): 491 of 496 precincts reporting

  • Adriano Espaillat (Democrat): 81.51 percent
  • Robert Evans (Republican): 6.31 percent
  • Daniel Vila Rivera (Green): 3.24 percent

31st State Senate District (Washington Heights/Far Western Manhattan): 233 of 235 precincts

  • Marisol Alcantara (D): 77.37 percent
  • John Toro (Conservative): 1.09 percent
  • Melinda Crump (R): 6.93 percent

71st State Assembly District (Washington Heights/Inwood): 93 of 96 precincts

  • Herman D. Farrell Jr. (D): 81.82 percent
  • Vanessa Stanback (R): 6.81 percent

72nd State Assembly District (Washington Heights/Inwood): 83 of 85 precincts

  • Carmen De La Rosa (D): 79.43 percent
  • Blank: 20.09 percent
