Eco-Friendly Street Festival Coming To Wash Heights: What To Know
A block separating two Washington Heights schools on Friday will transform into an environmentally focused streetscape. Here's what to know.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — A street between two Washington Heights schools will transform into a public space of environmentally conscious learning and activity on Friday.
The entire block on West 182nd Street between Amsterdam and Audubon, which separates the school buildings of Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS) and I.S. 143, will become a Green Corridor in honor Park(ing) Day 2021.
Park(ing) Day is an annual global event where people transform parking and street spaces into public places for people.

"W. 182nd Street will become a green play street to promote community and environmental wellness to bring awareness of the elementary student-led initiative of a “Clean Air Green Corridor," reads a description for Park(ing) Day 2020. "The event will set the stage as an Open Street model, with a pop-up park and educational/urban design-related activities."
The street will be totally closed off to traffic during the event.

This event is a collaboration with WHEELS, Friends of WHEELS, American Society of Landscape Architects New York Chapter (ASLA-NY), NYC Public Design Commission, NYC Planning, American Planning Association New York (APA-NY), StreetLab, and CCNY Student ASLA chapter.
The day kicks off at 1:30 p.m. and lasts until 6:30 p.m.
