Woman Fights Off Rapist In Inwood, Police Say

The woman was grabbed from behind Sunday morning as she entered her apartment building on Broadway near West 215th Street.

INWOOD, NY — The NYPD is trying to identify a man wanted for an attempted rape in Inwood, police said.

A 34 year-old woman was walking to her apartment building on Broadway and West 215th Street around 5:40 a.m. Sunday when an unknown man approached her from behind, police said. The man reached under her skirt as she opened the gate to her building and put his hand over her mouth to muffle her screams, police said.

The woman was able to fight herself free of the man, run inside her building and lock the door behind her, police said.

The attacker fled the scene after the woman ran inside, police said. The suspect is described as a man standing 6-feet-tall and weighing about 150 pounds, police said. The man is partially bald and was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and grey pants.
