Beloved West Village Bodega Shuttering, Employee Confirms
The 9th St Farmers Market at 64 W. 9th St. will have its final day of business this week, a store employee confirmed to Patch.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A beloved West Village bodega that helped locals through Superstorm Sandy is closing by the end of the week, a store employee confirmed to Patch.
The 9th St Farmers Market at 64 W. 9th St., off the corner of Sixth Ave., will have it final day of business on either Friday or Saturday.
"Of all the block businesses, the bodega kept their sidewalk and the street in of them clean as a whistle, year in and year out," West Village resident Mary Kramer told Patch. "They always had a smile and a banana. Staff and owners were always so nice. We are going to miss them so much- more than we know."

Kramer added that the bodega was one of the few businesses to remain open during Superstorm Sandy, using flashlights to guide people through aisles as block and surrounding neighborhood lost power for days.
The employee Patch spoke to did not know why the bodega was closing.

Kramer also voiced her worry that the trend of smoke shop openings will take over the soon to shutter storefront.
There are no new permits filed with the city for the 64 W. 9th St. address.
Patch will keep an eye out for any developments for the space.
