Dog Poop Complaints Skyrocket, Except In West Village

A new city campaign to get dog owners to pick up their precious poops comes as 311 calls about messy pooches skyrocket.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — There's a few truths in life: death, taxes, and in New York City, dog poop on the sidewalk.

311 complaints about unattended dog feces have surged across the city in 2023 so far, and despite the low total numbers, the West Village too is set to break new poo complaint records.

Across its two ZIP codes, the West Village has already logged eight 311 complaints this year, according to city data.

That's already 80 percent of last year's total of 12 dog poo complaints logged with 311.

If reflective of how West Village dogs are treating the sidewalks, the neighborhood could be in for a surge of the brown stuff during the steamy summer season.

That rising tide of the brown stuff has spurred city officials to tell New Yorkers: it's time to cut the crap.

While the Big Apple has been besieged by Big Poo for years, the Department of Sanitation is releasing a new ad campaign chiding residents to do their "doody" and clean up after their dogs.

"Don't Leave _ _it On The Sidewalk," is the campaign's scatological slogan.

Another poster showing an industrious wire-haired dog with a rake and dustbin reads: "Until They Can, It's On You."

Citywide, 311 dog poo complaints have already reached 880, a massive increase from the 600 logged this time last year, according to city data.

Humans across New York City logged 2,100 311 complaints regarding dog waste in all of 2022.

Unless the city can — like Mayor Adams says — "Get S--- Done," this year is set to break all sorts of disgusting records.
