Greenwich Village Super Beat After Confronting Package Snatcher: NYPD

A robber trying to snag packages from a Greenwich Village building punched its super multiple times for trying to stop him, police said.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A Greenwich Village building's superintendent was punched in the head and threatened with a baseball bat and knife after he tried to stop a robber from snatching packages from the lobby, police said on Wednesday.

A man made his way into a building at 75 Bleecker St. about 5 p.m. on Dec. 7 by ringing different apartment buzzers, police said.

Once inside the Lower Manhattan address, the man took multiple packages off of the floor of the hallway, police said.

The building's 69-year-old superintendent came to the lobby to confront the robber, but the man started hurling packages at him, struck him in the face, and grabbed the bat that the super initially arrived with, police said.

The robber continued to punch the super in the head after he fell to the ground, while also threatening him with the bat and a knife, police said.

The robber then ran away without any of the packages, police said.

NYPD describes the suspect as in his forties, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, and 175 pounds.
