Greenwich Village ZIP Codes Near NYC Top In COVID Positivity Rate

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A pair of Greenwich Village ZIP codes registered near the highest COVID-19 positivity rates in New York City for the most recently available week.

The increasing numbers come as the BA.2 omicron subvariant continues to circulate at higher rates within the five boroughs and New York state.

From March 20 to March 26, Greenwich Village's and SoHo's 10012 ZIP code had a COVID positivity rate of 5.58 percent — the 12th highest of any area in New York City.

Not far behind was the East Village and Greenwich Village's 10003 ZIP code, which had a 5.35 percent positivity rate during the week — the 14th highest in the city.

To give that perspective, there are more than 140 ZIP codes in the city.

Here's more information for the two Lower Manhattan ZIP codes:

10012: Greenwich Village/SoHo

• Percent Positive: 5.58 percent
• New People Positive: 46
• Number of People Tested: 825

10003: East Village/Greenwich Village

• Percent Positive: 5.35 percent
• New People Positive: 113
• Number of People Tested: 825

The 10014 ZIP code in the West Village's 5.17 percent positivity is also within the top 20 highest in the five boroughs. During the March 20 to March 26 week, there were 40 new positive cases and 774 people tested.

The COVID rates are still much lower than those seen during the original omicron wave in December and January, but the state's daily test positivity rate reached 3.2 percent on Tuesday, up from 1.6 percent two weeks ago.

While the new surge is being seen in the Greenwich Village area, it is not as drastic as what happened in the neighborhood during the omicron wave at the end of 2021.

In the middle of December, the West Village's 10014 ZIP code had the highest COVID positivity rate in the city at 15.09 percent, and three of the five highest COVID rates in NYC were in Greenwich Village.
