Highly Anticipated Pizzeria Will Open In The West Village This Weekend

L'antica Pizzeria de Michele, the pizzeria from "Eat Pray Love," will open at 2 Bank St. on Saturday. Here's what to know.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — For years, there has been buzz that the world-famous pizza spot L'antica Pizzeria de Michele was opening a West Village outpost. The time has finally come as the eatery will open the Lower Manhattan location this Saturday.

The historic Naples' based establishment was made famous as the pizzeria featured in the hugely popular "Eat Pray Love" book and Julia Roberts-starring movie.

L'antica Pizzeria de Michele will open at 2 Bank St., and operate seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., before expanding its hours in the new year.

Its new West Village home is a two-story, 6,000 square-foot space with three separate concepts expected to be fully revealed in 2023.

There will be a salumeria, a charcuterie bar, a coffee bar, multiple upscale bars, a wine cellar, and a basement tavern. Full-service breakfast, lunch and dinner will begin in early 2023.

For now, the eatery will serve the following three pizza standouts.

  • Pizza Margherita: Tomato, Fior di Latte, Pecorino, Basil (V)
  • Pizza Marinara: Tomato, Sicilian Oregano, Garlic, Salt, Basil (VG)
  • Pizza Diavola: Tomato, Fior di Latte, Pecorino, Basil, Spicy Salame

The pizzeria first opened in Naples, Italy, in 1870 and has been crafting pies for over 150 years at the location. It opened its first-ever U.S. joint in Hollywood in 2019.

Naples-born chef Michele Rubini will lead the West Village kitchen.

L'antica Pizzeria de Michele is best known for its Margherita pizza.

The over 100-year Italian pizzeria is known by many as the quaint and charming destination featured in Elizabeth Gilbert's "Eat Pray Love," which Roberts also walks into in the movie version.
