'Hottest' NYC Eateries List Includes New West Village Tavern
A Shaker-inspired tavern was recognized for its delicious, yet "simple," dishes in Eater's list of NYC's "hottest" new restaurants.
GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A West Village tavern that opened last month is already among the 'hottest' new restaurants in NYC, critics say.
Commerce Inn, a "Shaker-inspired" American eatery located at 50 Commerce Street, was named among the 15 "hottest new restaurants in Manhattan" by Eater editors this month.
The eatery is among a couple repeat-favorite West Village spots on the list, including Semma, a South Indian restaurant that opened last October.

While Commerce Inn is new to Eater's heat-map, the acclaimed duo behind the restaurant are no strangers to the NYC restaurant scene: chefs Jody Williams and Rita Sodi also operate neighborhood favorite Via Carota together, and both chefs run other successful restaurants in the city.
Unlike the duo's other Italian-focused eateries, though, Commerce Inn is inspired by the Shakers, a religious group guided by the principles of simplicity, utility, and honesty.

As such, the Commerce Inn's menu is an assortment of delicious "simple plates," according to Eater editors.
Editors specifically recommend the tavern's beans and pork belly, spoon bread, and smoked cod cakes.
