Man Struck And Killed By Train At Canal Street: Police

The train conductor hit his emergency breaks but wasn't able to stop the subway in time from striking the man, police said.

LOWER MANHATTAN, NY — A train struck and killed a man walking on the tracks at Canal Street on Tuesday afternoon, police told Patch.

The unidentified man was walking on the tracks around 1:12 p.m., when a northbound A train entered the Lower Manhattan station, police said.

The conductor applied his emergency breaks, but wasn't able to stop the train in time from hitting the man, police said.

The man was declared dead on the tracks, police said.

The incident stopped E trains from running between West 4th Street - Washington Square and World Trade Center in both directions.

C trains were running express from Canal Street to 59th Street - Columbus Circle, the MTA tweeted.
