Mermaid Inn Owners Open New Mexican Spot In Greenwich Village

Mermaid Inn has successful restaurants across the city. On Tuesday, it opened Mermaid Mexicana at 79 MacDougal St.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — The Mermaid Inn has focused its restaurants on seafood, but its latest venture in Greenwich Village is giving the neighborhood a new Mexican cuisine option.

Mermaid Mexicana opened Tuesday at 79 MacDougal Street, which is adjacent to the home of the Mermaid Oyster Bar.

"Now open at 79 MacDougal!The original Mermaid Oyster Bar just moved down the street," Mermaid Inn wrote on its Instagram page on Tuesday. "Swim over to #MermaidMexicana for happy hour, frozen margaritas, fluke aguachile, enchiladas suizas, street tacos & more."

The new restaurant is headed by chef Victor Marin, who grew up in Mexico and previously worked at Mermaid Oyster Bar and Sushisamba.

The restaurant's reservation page says the menu is a "combination of new and old classic Mexican cuisine, with an emphasis on flavor, seasonal ingredients and simplicity."

The menu includes flautes, quesadillas, tacos, tostadas, fluke, enchiladas, plantains, churros, and more.

There are also a variety of cocktail options. There is a happy hour daily from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Mermaid Inn also has locations in Chelsea and on the Upper West Side.
