GREENWICH VILLAGE, NY — A pair of the first legal recreational marijuana dispensaries in New York are set to open in Greenwich Village in the coming weeks.

Housing Works, a nonprofit that supports people with HIV/AIDS, is expected to have its dispensary soft opening by the end of December at Broadway and Eighth Street — in a space formerly occupied by Gap.

The other incoming Greenwich Village dispensary is from the Doe Fund, a nonprofit that provides temporary housing and job training, which submitted an application for 13th Street between Broadway and University Place.

"We're talking the first operational legal cannabis dispensary in the state will be in Community Board 2," Mar Fitzgerald, the chairperson of CB2's Cannabis Licensing Committee said during a meeting last week. "I can say that with confidence."
