The burger chain will also relocate its test kitchen and home offices.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Shake Shack is opening a new flagship restaurant and headquarters in the West Village, the company announced on Tuesday.

The hugely popular burger joint signed a 27,000-square-foot lease for a new restaurant, test kitchen and office, the company said. The new epicenter will open in the heart of the West Village, at 225 Varick St. Both the new restaurant and the office space are expected to open in early 2018, the company said.

Shake Shack will relocate its headquarters from their current location near Union Square. (For more information on this and other neighborhood stories, subscribe to Patch to receive daily newsletters and breaking news alerts.)

"The space at 225 Varick presents a unique opportunity to bring the in-shack experience, culinary development and business operations all under one roof," Shake Shack executive Andrew McCaughan said in a statement. "We are thrilled to bring Shake Shack to the West Village and create a unique community gathering place for the neighborhood. The addition of a proper test kitchen will allow for further menu development as we scale—we are excited to see what our culinary team will dream up next!"
