The Little Taco House, 246 W. 4th Street
This humble, cash-only taco spot hawks simple, satisfying fare at prices that are a steal for the neighborhood. Two overstuffed tortilla tacos will run customers $3.50 with ten fillings to choose from. Pick from a roster of sauces including chipotle or homemade chile de arbol. Oslo Coffee Roasters, 236 W. 10th Street
Williamsburg-based Oslo Coffee Roasters has opened its fourth brick-and-motor cafe on W. 10th Street. This roaster only grinds beans from farmers who use "ecologically and socially" sustainable methods to support a healthy environment and fair wages for their workers, according to the shop's website. Coffee fiends can get their caffeine fix with the typical selection of coffee and espresso drinks along with baked sweets from Roberta's bakery-pizzeria in Williamsburg.
What's Coming
Morgenstern’s Finest Ice Cream, 88 West Houston Street
Master ice cream purveyor Nick Morgenstern is branching out with a new flagship store with 88 flavors after opening his Lower East Side location four years ago. Morgenstern has been mulling the move for years and recently submitted plans for the new West Village location with Community Board 2 for a liquor license — signaling a boozy departure from the original parlor. The outpost's grand opening is Friday, Oct. 12 at 4 p.m.
Pisellino, 100 Seventh Avenue South
The women behind West Village hits Buvette, I Sodi and Via Carota are crafting a new all-day casual restaurant that will open from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. Chefs Jody Williams and Rita Sodi, known for their charming neighborhood restaurants with classic Italian cuisine, are drawing inspiration from a Roman cafe for their latest project, which will hawk paninis, pasta, cocktails and more. Pisellino is expected to open its doors this fall.
Llama San, 359 Sixth Avenue
Chefs Erik Ramirez and Juan Correa earned acclaim with Peruvian restaurant Llama Inn in Williamsburg and are growing their empire across the East River with Llama San, which will serve up Japanese-Peruvian fare. Patrons can expect dishes such as quinoa-infused tofu with quinoa furikake, wild sturgeon caviar and chancaca, a Peruvian syrup made from sugarcane. The restaurant is slated to open sometime this fall.
