Supermarket Replacing Large Vacant West Village Storefront: Report

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A Uzbek supermarket famous for its endless buffet is opening in a major vacant storefront in the West Village, Eater NY reported.

Brighton Beach's Tashkent Supermarket will open at 378 Sixth Ave., off Waverly Place, by the end of the year, according to Eater NY.

Tashkent is a supermarket that also serves up hot food from a buffet of over 200 trays.

The new supermarket will take over a now-shuttered storefront that used to serve as home to a short-lived coffee business and the Washington Court Condominium.

Its last tenant to stand the test of time was a Duane Reade that closed in 2016.

The new supermarket is also directly next to a temporarily closed Starbucks, but it is unclear if the national coffee chain space will be used for the new supermarket.

Tashkent did not immediately answer an email or a call from Patch.

Either way, it is a major vacancy to get filled in the neighborhood as the storefront is larger than most in the West Village and has a West 4th Street subway station entrance on its corner.

Its buffet options include kebabs, fried samsa, shawarma platter, cauliflower, caesar salad, and much more.
