Tortilla Flats, A West Village Staple, To Close Next Week
The 35-year-old Tex-Mex restaurant couldn't negotiate a new lease with their landlord, according to staff.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Kitschy cantina Tortilla Flats is closing next week after 35 years of slinging grub and good times in the West Village, staff told Patch.
The W. 12th and Washington streets bar is closing Oct. 27 after its owners were unable to reach an agreement with the landlord for a new lease, according to staff.
Tortilla Flats has been a popular spot for its Tex-Mex fare and ample margaritas since 1983. Hula hoop, bingo and other themed nights have kept locals coming back and connecting with their neighbors at the cozy, two-room eatery, said one regular.

"This is a true neighborhood spot. It's where you go to drink margaritas and hula hoop with locals," said Ed Vargas, 56, who has been coming to Tortilla Flats for more than a decade. "It's sad to see yet another great place leave because of crazy rents — it's squeezing all the character out of this city."
Patrons have until next Saturday to savor a last meal at the restaurant.
