West Village July Crime Down over 25 Percent Than Last Year: NYPD Data
Major crimes are overall down, but some are still seeing a rise, data shows.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Seems like some criminals have taken a summer vacation.
Crime complaints continued a downward trend in the West Village, with a big drop in July outpacing the fall seen in June, compared to those same months in 2022.
Overall major crimes fell by nearly 20 percent overall back in June compared to the year before, but the same statistic in July revealed an even greater drop of over 25 percent, according to NYPD data.

The major fall in West Village crime numbers can be most clearly seen in major drops during July in burglary (-36.1 percent) and grand larceny (-34.4).
Other major crimes saw smaller increases, like one additional auto theft over last year and two additional robberies.
Unfortunately, July was not a good month for felony assaults, with five additional reports contributing to a 50 percent rise over 2022.
Transit crimes remained steady, with no change over 2022.
Overall, crime is down over 10 percent year-to-date compared with 2022.
