WEST VILLAGE, NY — After four years of lying fallow, excavation has finally begin at 570 Washington St. in the West Village, according to reports.

Piling machines and excavators were seen getting ready to build two residential towers, a 400 foot 29-story-tower and a 450 foot 36-story-tower, at the site, according to New York YIMBY. The online real estate development site says the project will cost about $1.25 billion and will result in an undisclosed number of units.

The massive lot — formerly home to the northern end of the St. John's Terminal building — borders West, West Houston, Washington and Clarkson streets, and has sat empty since the building's demolition in 2019, reports New York YIMBY.

Designed by COOKFOX Architects, the buildings will feature dozens of setbacks across the structure and both buildings will either provide future residents with either expansive river or city views — once construction wraps in 2026.
