Driver Flees Scene Of East Quogue DWI Crash: PD

He was soon apprehended, police say.

EAST QUOGUE, NY— An East Quogue man was arrested after he tried to flee the scene of a DWI crash Saturday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the one-car crash took place at about 6:15 p.m. on Old Country Road and Lewis Road in East Quogue.

Upon arrival, responding officers learned the driver had left the scene; after a canvass of
the area the driver, Edgar Gozalez-Gonzalex, 48, was located nearby, police said.

Gonzalez-Gonzalez was found to be intoxicated by alcohol; he was arrested and taken to police headquarters in Hampton Bays, where he was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, a misdemeanor, police said.

He was held for morning arraignment, police said.
