Hampton Bays Man Arrested on Burglary Charge

The following arrests were reported by the Town of Southampton Police over the past week. A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

Hampton Bays

• A Hampton Bays man was arrested on a host of charges, including burglary, on Sep. 11. According to police, Wayne Sapiane, 59, was picked up at around 6:30 p.m. on Squiretown Road after his friend called 911 and reported him for burglarizing his home on the same street. When police stopped Sapiane they reportedly found marijuana in his possession. They said he was in violation of his parole. Sapiane was charged with second-degree burglary, a felony, second-degree criminal impersonation, a misdemeanor, unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation, and parole violation.
• David Reynolds, 46, of Hampton Bays, was arrested on Sep. 9 on a charge of DWI, a misdemeanor. According to police an eyewitness called 911 to report that someone had fled the scene of an accident on Westbury Road. The witness provided police with a plate number and vehicle description. At around 8 p.m. police caught up with the vehicle, a 2008 Hyundai Elantra, driven by Reynolds and pulled him over. According to the officer at the scene Reynolds admitted that he had been drinking and said he had just returned from the beach. Reynolds was also charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and moving from lanes unsafely, violations both.
• A Hampton Bays man was arrested on Sept. 10 after police said he punched the window of a storefront and then resisted arrest. According to the report, police were called to the Center Island Pharmacy on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays at around 10:15 p.m. after the 28-year-old broke the store window. Police said when they tried to arrest him he resisted. The man suffered cuts to his right hand from breaking the glass and was taken to Southampton Hospital, where he was treated and released. He’s been charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors.
