LI Man Fled Police In Pursuit; Threatened Man With Knife: PD

He was arrested recently after the multiple incidents in July, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested Saturday in connection with multiple offenses stemming from separate incidents in July, police said.

Anyelo Barenfaller, 40, was arrested and charged with third-degree unlawfully fleeing an officer in a vehicle, a misdemeanor; reckless driving, a misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic
violations after one incident on July 23, police said.

On July 23 at about 4:21 p.m., Barenfaller was seen driving a 2012 Dodge Ram at a high rate of speed westbound on Montauk Highway near Bittersweet Avenue South Extension, unlawfully and unsafely passing other motorists, among other vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.

When police officers attempted to stop him, he failed to comply, ultimately continuing hisreckless course of driving, and evaded police, police said.

The pursuit attempts were terminated in consideration for public safety, police said.

Additionally, Barenfaller was also charged with third-degree criminal mischief, a felony; second-degree menacing, a misdemeanor; and second-degree harassment, a violation, police said. Those charges stem from an incident that occurred on July 12 at the Bays Bar & Grill, located on Montauk Highway West in Hampton Bays, police said. Barenfaller was involved in an altercation during which he punched another patron during the dispute, threatened him with a knife, and then intentionally slashed and deflated three tires on the patron’s vehicle prior to fleeing the altercation, police said.
