Man Charged With DWI After Fleeing Scene Of 3-Car Hamptons Crash: PD

The crash took place in Hampton Bays Thursday night, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Hampton Bays man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after fleeing the scene of a three-car crash in Hampton Bays Thursday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the crash took place at about 6:29 p.m. at Montauk Highway West and West Tiana Road.

Upon arrival, officers determined that none of the drivers were injured and searched the area for the driver who'd fled, police said.

A short while later. Clemente Cuaya, 46, was located at a residence in the area; he attempted to flee on foot but was apprehended, police said.

He was ultimately arrested and charged with misdemeanor DWI and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage, a violation, police said. Cuaya was brought to police headquarters in Hampton Bays where he was processed and held for morning arraignment, police said.
