Police: Two Speonk Homes Burglarized On Same Day

Southampton Town police released the following incident reports for the week of Oct. 21:

Speonk

• Someone broke into a house on North Phillips Avenue on Oct. 15 and stole assorted jewelry from a bedroom. According to police, the victim reported the break-in at about 8 p.m. to report the burglary after she said the unknown subject got into the house through an unlocked side bedroom window sometime between 9 a.m. and when she discovered the theft that day. She said more than $7,000 in jewelry, including earring and rings, was stolen.
• A similar burglary also took place on the same day at a house on Speonk-Riverhead Road. According to police, the victim told police on Oct. 15 at around 12:15 p.m. that someone had broken into his home sometime between 7 a.m. and noon that day and stole a jar full of coins valued at $400, a gold ring with diamonds, valued at $700, and gold Figaro bracelets, valued at $500.

East Quogue

• An East Quogue woman reported a theft on Oct. 17 after she said jewelry went missing from a jewelry box left on top of the dresser at her Lewis Road house. She said sometime between Sept. 28 and Oct. 16, a ladies 14k gold ring with diamond inserts and a men’s 10k gold ring went missing. The rings were valued at a total of $1,992. The woman named a suspect who has access to the house, but police have no evidence or leads as of yet.

Remsenburg

• Someone smashed a split rail fence on Bridle Path on Oct. 13 and then drove off without reporting the incident. The victim called 911 at around 8 a.m. to report the incident. The unknown motorist mowed down four sections of the fence before continuing southbound on the road.

Hampton Bays

• Someone broke into a restaurant that was being renovated and stole more than $10,000 in construction materials and equipment from the contractor who was working on the job. According to police the contractor reported the theft on Oct. 18, which took place overnight. Police said the suspect got into the Montauk Highway restaurant by removing four cinder blocks that were holding up a piece of plywood that covered an access point to the building. A full set of shingles, a table saw, a compressor, assorted tools and roofing material, all totaling $10,300 in value, were stolen.
• A woman on Hubbard Street told police that someone gouged the words “Slut” and “Bitch” into her 2005 Chevy pickup truck on Oct. 18. Photographs of the truck were taken and the woman named a potential suspect.
