State Audit Detects Flaws in Village Electric Documenting System

An audit released by the New York State comptroller’s office last week revealed that there is potential for problems when it comes to Westhampton Beach's electric document filing system. 

According to a report on 27east, the state found that a number of village employees had administrative rights to computer accounts that they didn't need to have and that the village does not have a sufficient, emergency back-up system for electric records. 

The village has 90 days to report to the state on what it plans to do to remedy the noted problems and 27east reported that Mayor Conrad Teller said the village has already taken steps toward fixes.

The latest report comes after the state released a financial report in January that stated that the village's information technology department was insufficient and required examination.  

That report was conducted at the request of the village when it was learned that an accounting error resulted in the overpayments of 40 village employees, including the mayor at a total of $22,000.
