Wanted: 'Amazing Rase' Contestants

Westhampton Beach School District student Lauren Bauer is looking to raise money for her school and needs the community's help to do it.

On Saturday at 10:30 a.m., she is holding her fifth annual 'Amazing Rase' around Westhampton Beach to help fund the district's wellness center and the Hurricane Foundation.

The event is modeled after CBS's popular Amazing Race in which contestants travel the world hunting for clues and competing in physical challenges to win a prize.

Bauer said she got the idea to create a local version in 2009 while attending her cousin's graduation in Philadelphia where she saw CBS contestants running the streets in search of a clue.

In Bauer's version, teams of between 2 and 6, race around Westhampton Beach in search of clues hidden in Main Street shops and establishments like the Westhampton Beach Performing Arts Center and the Westhampton Beach Fire Department. To get the clues, contestants have to perform a physical challenge.

In year's past, Bauer has raised $6,000.

The cost to participate is $100 a team and those looking to sign up, can e-mail Bauer at amazingrasewhb@gmail.com. For more information visit the Westhampton Beach Amazing Rase Facebook page by clicking here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/214257105347261/?fref=ts
