Woman Indicted After Hamptons Hit-And-Run Crash That Killed Sara Burack Of 'Million Dollar Beach House': DA

She stopped only long enough to try and remove Sara Burack's suitcase from underneath her vehicle before fleeing the scene, the DA says.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A Virginia woman who killed a popular local real estate agent in a Hampton Bays hit-and run crash in June was indicted Monday, Suffolk County District Attorney Ray Tierney said.

Amanda Kempton, 32, of Fairfax, Virginia, was indicted on the charge of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death, after she reportedly struck and killed pedestrian Sara Burack, 40, of Southampton, on West Montauk Highway.

Burack was a well-known Hamptons real estate agent who had worked, in past years, for Nest Seekers International and appeared in the 2020 Netflix series "Million Dollar Beach House."

According to the investigation, on June 19, 2025, at about 2:26 a.m., Kempton was reportedly driving a 2004 Toyota Highlander westbound on West Montauk Highway near Springville Road in Hampton Bays when she struck Burack, who was walking westbound along West Montauk Highway with a suitcase, Tierney said.

At the time of the crash, Burack’s suitcase became lodged underneath Kempton’s vehicle, the DA said.

Immediately after the crash, Kempton did not report the incident to law enforcement or render aid to Burack, but, instead, tried unsuccessfully to remove the suitcase from underneath her vehicle, before fleeing the scene with the suitcase still dragging underneath, Tierney said.

A passing motorist discovered Burack lying on the shoulder of West Montauk Highway and called 911 at 2:45 a.m., the DA said. Burack was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where she was later pronounced deceased, Tierney said.

On June 20, Southampton Town police detectives traced the vehicle involved in the crash to the owner, Kempton, who was located at an address in Manorville, the DA said. Detectives recovered the vehicle, which had front-end damage, Tierney said.

The investigation also revealed that Kempton had discarded the suitcase in a local dumpster along with its contents, Tierney said. Kempton was taken into custody that day, the DA said.

On Monday, Kempton was arraigned on the indictment before Supreme Court Justice John Collins, for the charge of one count of leaving the scene of an incident resulting in death, a Class D felony, Tierney said.

Judge Collins ordered Kempton held on $100,000 cash, $200,000 bond or $1 million partially secured bond during the pendency of the case, the DA said.

Kempton is due back in court on November 20 and faces 2⅓ to 7 years in prison if convicted on the top count, Tierney said.

She is being represented by William Keahon, who was not immediately available for comment.

"Leaving the scene of a fatal collision makes a tragic situation even worse," said Tierney. "Rather than rendering help to Ms. Burack, the defendant allegedly left her to die. This indictment is an important step towards justice for Sara and her loved ones."

Dylan Eckardt, who worked with Burack for almost five years at Nest Seekers, mourned her loss, telling Patch during a previous interview: "She worked right next to me for a long time. She was an unbelievable agent. She could handle herself in New York as well as the Hamptons. I'm so sorry that this happened. Condolences go to her family."
