Bellew Elementary Has Biggest Candy Drive Ever
West Islip school will donate 301 pounds of Halloween goodies for troops and children overseas.

Students at West Islip’s Paul J. Bellew Elementary School supported a candy-donation drive for the United States military for the eighth year in a row. This time, a record-breaking 301 pounds of Halloween candy were collected.
With the efforts of Dr. Howard M. Tichler and Dr. Jenny E. Abraham of West Islip Orthodontics, the candy was collected for shipment to troops and children overseas. During the pickup visit, Marine Corps members visited Laura Hill-Primiano’s third grade music class, and the students sang “God Bless America.” Tichler, who is also a musician, played the song on saxophone. Bellew’s PTA will receive a check from the orthodontic office for $200 to be used toward a student program.
