BOE Incumbent Seeks Re-Election

Board President Steve Gellar is vying for another term.

Steve Gellar, president of the West Islip Board of Education, is seeking re-election to the board.

Gellar is in his sixth year as a member and was re-elected in 2009, when he ran unopposed.

A West Islip resident since 1996, Gellar is a father of two and works as an electrical engineer.

In 2008, he and current Board of Education Vice President Annmarie LaRosa co-founded the West Islip Summit Coalition, which streamlines volunteer organizations within the community.

Gellar will vie against first-time , who announced his candidacy earlier this month.

The seat currently held by Trustee Michael Zotto will also be contested in next month's election. It was not known if Zotto is planning to seek re-election.

The district's Meet The Candidate night is scheduled for Monday, May 7. The school budget and BOE election will be held on May 15.
