Field Adjacent to Library Being Rehabilitated

School district officials say work includes new top soil, grading and seeding.

The field located to the east of the is being rehabilitated by the in an effort to keep it in optimal condition for the many local sports teams and clubs that utilize the location.

The field, while located behind the library, is school district property.

According to James Bosse, director of buildings and grounds for the school district, the current work includes improving irrigation while adding soil, sand and seed.

“This field was never irrigated and therefore always burnt dry by August,” he said. “We added a large amount of topsoil to improve the grading and then topdressed it with sand. We’re hoping for a significantly better field for the spring season.”

Bosse noted that the annual West Islip Country Fair scheduled for late September would still be held on the property. However, the 7th Annual Classic Car Show over Labor Day weekend will need to be relocated.

According to Ray Rendina, executive vice president of the , the car show will be re-located to the back of the high school.
