PAWS Honors Huscilowitc, McNamee

West Islip education foundation recognized technology director, local charity founder at seventh annual gala.

During its seventh annual gala Friday, Partners Advancing West Islip Schools  honored two dedicated and influential West Islip community members.

At this year’s event at the Southward Ho Country Club in Bay Shore, PAWS honored Sue Husilowitc, director of instructional technology and student information for the school district, with its Outstanding Educator Award; and Maria McNamee, founder of the , with its Outstanding Community Member Award.

PAWS continues to raise funds for programs and equipment for use by local students in schools across the district, and the annual gala is the organization's biggest fundraiser.

Since its inception in 2004, PAWS has donated funding to West Islip schools to cover the cost of many items, including cameras, e-books, a recodring studio for the high school and several rock climbing walls.

To date, the organization has donated items to schools totaling more than $270,000.
