Hurricane floods several areas in the southern part of the hamlet.
Hurricane Irene's storm surge flooded coastal areas of West Islip as the storm made landfall Sunday morning. High winds and waves continued to lash the hamlet during early afternoon Sunday as residents began to come out of their homes and survey the damage.
