For the second time in less than a week, West Islip fire fighters battled a <a href="articles/overnight-fire-damages-pine-ave-home" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">house fire</a>, this time at 30 Westminster Lane. There were no injuries in the blaze. West Islip volunteers aided in dousing the flames of the raging brush faire that damaged 1,000 acres of woodlands in eastern Suffolk County earlier this week. Playing its fifth game of the season West Islip boys lacrosse head coach Scott Craig felt his team needed to make a statement. The Lions 14-3 win over Sachem North may have done just that. The Bellew Recycling Club at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School recently partcipated in a sneaker drive as part of the Keep Islip Clean Sneaker Recycling Program. In total, the group collected 192 sneakers, which will be shipped to the Nike recycling center in Memphis, Tenn.
