West Islip Elementary School Appoints New Principal
Amanda Harvey will greet students at Oquenock Elementary School this fall as their new principal.

WEST ISLIP, NY — A West Islip elementary school has a new principal.
Amanda Harvey was recently named as the new principal of Oquenock Elementary School, by the West Islip School District.
She replaces Jack Maniscalco, who retired at the end of the school year.

Harvey has served as assistant principal of Beach Street Middle School in the West Islip School District since 2021, the district said. She has spent more than 23 years as an educator in the West Islip School District as both a first grade and fourth grade teacher at Paul J. Bellew Elementary School. Since 2008, she also has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Massachusetts’ New York Center for Teacher Development.
“Having spent more of my career working with elementary students, I am excited to begin this next chapter at Oquenock in a district I have called home for more than 20 years,” Harvey said. “I look forward with getting to know the staff, students and families of Oquenock.”

She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a master’s degree in reading K- 12 from SUNY Cortland. In addition, she holds certification in school district administrator and school administration and supervisor from LIU/Post
