WI Native Records 500th Career NHL Game

Mike Komisarek of the Maple Leafs reached a milestone Tuesday night.

How many residents knew that they had a veteran NHL defenseman from their own hometown ?

West Islip native Mike Komisarek, currently of the Toronto Maple Leafs, skated in his 500th career game on Tuesday night, a 5-3 home loss to the Florida Panthers.  He's been in the league since the 2002-03 season and has tallied over 70 points. 

He told IFPpress.com's Dave Hilson:

“It’s always great, it’s a bit of a milestone.  But at the same time, we’re looking to bounce back and respond after the last couple of weeks.

"I think the whole trade deadline thing has been a bit of a distraction for our team and yesterday was a big vote of confidence for the guys in the room. We control our own destiny here.”

Komisarek was referring to a recent losing skid the Maple Leafs are on; they have a 1-9-1 record in their last 11 games.

Throughout his career spanning multiple teams, Komisarek has totalled 14 goals, 62 assists and 652 penalty minutes.
