WI Student Receives First Annual Tolerance Award
Recognizes one student in each county who demonstrates intervention and advocates respect.

Brook DiP, a student at West Islip High School, was recently given the the first annual Friedlander Upstander Award, along with a $2,500 scholarship from the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County, the school recently announced.
The award is named in honor of Claire Friendlander, a Holocaust survivor, whose life was saved by the couragous people who fought against prejudice and injustice. The Friendlander Family Foundation was set up to honor her life and embody her legacy, the school said.Â
In connection with the and Nassau County Police Departments, the first annual Friedlander Upstander Award is presented to one student in each county who had demonstrated intervention or prevention.
