WILLIAMSBURG, BROOKLYN — A fire broke out in the first story of a three-story apartment building in the Orthodox Jewish section of Williamsburg, near Bed-Stuy, late Tuesday night.

Dozens of firefighters rushed to douse the flames at 29 Lorimer St. near Lee Avenue around 8:40 p.m., according to the Fire Department of New York (FDNY).

Around an hour later, the fire still hadn't been brought under control.

However, an FDNY spokesman said at 9:40 p.m. that no injuries had been reported so far, and that the fire was expected to "hold" — in other words, it was likely no additional firetrucks would need to be called to the scene.

Photos and video from the scene (see below) showed firefighters trying to push through a large crowd of residents that had gathered to watch.
