2 Accused Of Burglarizing Yorktown Home

Police said the couple assaulted the victim, holding the person against their will, while brandishing a firearm.

YORKTOWN, NY — An Elmsford man and a Bronx woman were accused of breaking into a Yorktown home while brandishing a firearm and robbing the victim.

The Yorktown Police Department said Darling Read, 34, of Elmsford, and Jovanda L. Paredes, 29, of Bronx, were arrested Friday and charged with second-degree burglary and second-degree robbery, felonies.

Police said, around 3:30 a.m. Friday, officers were sent to investigate a home burglary.

At the scene, police said they met with a distraught person, who said two people entered the home and remained for more than a half hour.

While inside, they assaulted the victim, brandished a firearm, held the victim against their will and stole property.

The couple fled the scene before police got there.

Police said the victim was able to identify both of the people.

An investigation determined the couple was in New York City.

Notifications to other agencies were made, and with the assistance of the FBI, the Westchester County police Conditions Unit and the New York Police Department, Read and Paredes were found in the Bronx and followed into Manhattan, where they were arrested by the FBI and the Westchester police.

The couple was transported to Yorktown Police Headquarters and processed on the charges.

They were arraigned in the Yorktown Justice Court.

Read was held on $100,000 bail or $200,000 bond. Paredes was held on $25,000 bail or $50,000 bond.

Neither was able to post bail and were taken to the Westchester County Jail until their next court date.
