AMVETS Bridge Opens, First Presidential Debate, Play it Forward

1. AMVETS Bridge Opens
The long awaited completion of the AMVETS bridge's rehabilitation project on the Taconic State Parkway is here. State officials held a press conference on Tuesday to announce that more than a month ahead of schedule the northbound bridge would reopen to traffic. 2. First Presidential Debate

The first of three televised presidential debates between Democratic President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney will be begin at 9 p.m. tonight. Members of the Republican Committees of Northern Westchester will be viewing at Somerfield's, at 325 Route 100 in Somers.
3. Lets Play it Forward

The Lets Play It Forward is a foundation that provides new and used sports equipment for children in need. Their goal is to organize as many ongoing sports equipment collections and drives as they can.
You can join them at the soccer fest on Oct. 13 at Reis Park in Somers. They will be holding a sports drive – you can visit at any time and drop off any sports equipment you have. The foundation is looking for volunters. If you would like to help us out and volunteer or donate sports equipment please contact Luigi Olinto at letsplayitforward@aol.com
4. 'How to Stay in Your Home'
The discussion at the John C. Hart Memorial Library on Thursday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. will answer questions about how to remain in your home with the help of Medicaid: spend-downs, pooled income trusts and caregiver agreements. Please register for this program.
Also, n attorney from the Pace Women’s Justice Center will be available on Thursday, Oct. 4 at the John C. Hart Memorial Library to assist seniors with issues such as financial scams, landlord tenant harassment or abuse, some contract problems if they indicate that a senior is being financially abused, misuse of a power of attorney by the designated attorney-in-fact, as well as issues of emotional or physical abuse. Just drop in.

5. Hayworth, Maloney to Speak at Environmental Forum
The New York League of Conservation Voters Education Fund is hosting a candidate forum on Oct. 9 from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. at Bedford's Historical Hall. The forum will allow the two candidates running for the 18th District, Nan Hayworth and Sean Patrick Maloney to discuss their platforms for clean energy and environmental protection.
