Armed Man Robs Payless Shoes Store; Elementary School in Lockout Mode
Police report an armed robbery at the Cortlandt Town Center. Van Cortlandtville Elementary, right across the street from the shopping center, goes in lockout.
An armed man walked into the Payless Shoes store in the Cortlandt Town Center at 10:10 a.m. and robbed the store clerk of approximately $400 after allegedly displaying a handgun.
Police report no injuries.
No one else besides the store clerk at the store, located at 3137 Main Street, Mohegan Lake, was inside when the suspect walked in, police said.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5' 5'' tall, in his mid 30s, thin build. He was wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt, black knit cap and dark sunglasses. As he walked out of the store he carried a red cloth bag.
It is not known how the suspect got away or in what direction, police said.

Yorktown Police Department, K-9 troopers, Westchester County Police, and State Police were at the scene.
New York State Investigator Steven G. Listner, from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation, said officials will be looking at security video tapes of the surrounding stores and are relying on those exterior cameras.
A Yorktown K-9 German Shepherd was present at the scene for general tracking. A Bloodhound will be helping police as the dog can follow a particular scent.
The Van Cortlandtville Elementary school, right across the street from the shopping center, was placed under a lockout mode until further notice, secretary at the school's district office Donna Godoy said.
