Arrest Made In Hit-And-Run That Killed 42-Year-Old Woman
Yorktown police arrested a 24-year-old Cortlandt Manor man shortly after the fatal crash that killed a pedestrian on Friday evening.

YORKTOWN, NY — Yorktown police say that an arrest has been made in connection to a Friday evening hit-and-run that left a Westchester woman dead.
Police say that on Friday evening, at 8:06 p.m., officers were called to the scene of a pedestrian struck by a motor vehicle on East Main Street near Mohegan Avenue.
The vehicle left the scene of the accident, according to authorities. Despite CPR administered by the first Yorktown police officer on scene, who was quickly assisted by Yorktown Paramedics, the Mohegan Fire Department and Mohegan Ambulance, the woman who was hit did not survive.

The victim was identified as 42-year-old Jennifer Proeschel, of Mohegan Lake.
After an investigation by the Yorktown Police Department Accident Investigation Unit, the Yorktown Police Department Detective Bureau, the Westchester County Police Department Accident Investigation Unit, and the Westchester County Real Time Crime Center, a vehicle belonging to Jake Barak was identified. Yorktown police and New York State Police found the vehicle at Barak's Cortlandt Manor home and arrested him.

The 24-year-old was charged with felony leaving the scene of personal injury auto accident-resulting in death, a traffic violation of speed not reasonable, and a traffic infraction of failing to use designated lane.
