YONKERS, NY — A White Plains man was accused of fatally stabbing another man in a parking garage.

The Yonkers Police Department said Necker Charles, 51, of White Plains, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree manslaughter, a felony.

Authorities said the victim was found unconscious around 2:15 a.m. Wednesday inside the parking garage at 25 Prospect St. He was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene.

Records for the phones indicated they belonged to Charles, police said.

Through surveillance camera footage and witness accounts, Charles was identified as the primary suspect, authorities said.

Law enforcement said that Charles was involved in a dispute with the victim over property.

Additional surveillance footage captured Charles discarding a knife in a nearby sewer. Police said the knife was recovered and will be processed for forensic evidence.

Police detectives located Charles in a car in Getty Square later Wednesday. He was apprehended without incident.

Yonkers Police First Deputy Chief Joseph Monaco applauded the detective division for its work in the case.

“In just 14 hours from the discovery of the crime, detectives were able to place a suspect into custody and recover the potential weapon used in the stabbing,” he said in a news release.

“We do not tolerate acts of violence in this city,” Monaco said, “and perpetrators should be aware that our officers and detectives will work tirelessly to bring you to justice should you attempt to do so here.”
