Art Classes for Children, Free Holiday Arrangements, Somers Field Hockey Results

Here are five things you need to know today, Sept. 26.

1. Schools Closed for Yom Kippur

Yom Kippur, also referred to as the "Day of Atonement,"and the tradition to solemnly fast for repentance and atonement of sins, began Tuesday evening at sunset. Yorktown, Somers and Lakeland schools are closed in observance of the holiday.

3. Free Holiday Arrangements for Local Businesses

Enchanted Doll Forest, located on 2201 Crompond Rd. is giving a free doll or bear themed holiday arrangement to anyone who is willing to put one on display at their local business. Contact Suzanne Mancuso at Shirleyinoz@aol.com or (845) 803-6846 for more information.

4. 'Senioritis'

Parents of Yorktown High School students are invited to attend a discussion with Davia Bugge, student assistance counselor at YHS, on Thursday, Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. in the library (after the business portion of the PTSA meeting). The discussion is about "the challenges and transitions your senior faces, the risks involved, and how you can help. Learn about the prevalence and risks of alcohol and drug abuse among college freshmen and parents’ opportunities for prevention senior year and beyond."

5. Art Classes for Children

Little People's Learning Center in Somers is offering an afterschool Art Class for children in grades K, 1, 2. This class will be on Mondays, from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Call 248-4020 or e-mail lplc@verizon.net for registration info.
