Art Exhibit to Open at the Winery in Mohegan Lake
The opening will be held on Saturday Sept. 29. The "Traces" exhibition closed on Oct. 5.
The Winery at St. George will be the venue for a rarely seen collection of Ukranian and Russian art for a limited one-week showing.
The exhibition, titled "Traces," opens on Saturday, Sept. 29 with a private reception until 7 p.m. and the public viewing that same evening immediately following.
The exhibition, which owner Tom DeChiaro describes as "inventive, rare and provocative," includes the paintings of Vachagan Narazyan, of the Ukraine, whose works are included in the Kharkov Art Museum among others and internationally in private collections throughout the United States and Europe.

The artwork of six artists will be on display with more than 40 paintings of diverse style and subject matter. The exhibition was organized by interior designer and art curator, Maryann Syrek of M. Studio Gallery of Cold Spring.
Narazyan's "disappearing landscape of each canvas creates a fantastical world of imaginary and surreal travel. This dream-like quality is born from the highly personal vision created in the mind and soul of this incomparable artist," according to the Winery. Many of the characters he paints are wearing the garb of nostalgia, enveloped in carnival dress or Renaissance robes reinforcing a sense of time passing by.

This inaugural exhibition is one of a series of art events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Winery at St. George building, which houses the tile work and windows of the famous John LaFarge whose sister built the church in 1912 as a personal memorial to her late husband, George Lewis Heins, a partner in the architectural firm of Heins & LaFarge.
The canvases, some expressly painted for this show, will be sent in from Mr. Narazyan’s studio in the Ukraine as well as from other established artists living in Eastern Europe.
If you can’t attend the opening on Saturday Sept. 29, there will be a public reception hosted by Syrek and DeChiaro, on Sunday between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
All are welcome to this exhibition and sale of Eastern European paintings. "Traces" closed on Oct. 5.
The Winery at St. George is located at 1715 E. Main Street (Route 6) in Mohegan Lake. Directions and information can be viewed on their website.
