12.26 tons of roadside litter.
That's how much garbage, including tossed paper cups, soda cans, plastic bags, water bottles, mufflers and tires 677 volunteers from 110 groups picked up last year in the town of Yorktown and placed into 1,100 orange garbage bags.
"Nevertheless, the litter is back defacing our roadsides," said Kim Angliss-Gage, recycling coordinator for the town of Yorktown. "Therefore we must rally the troops to pick up the roadside litter."

For the 25th year in a row residents will once again wage a war against litter on Saturday, April 20 for the annual clean-up event called "The Battle of Yorktown."
Residents are asked to catch the green spirit and celebrate Earth Day by volunteering to pick up litter in their neighborhood. Volunteers from scout troops, organizations, businesses, families and individuals are needed to take just an hour or two to pick up roadside litter, Angliss-Gage said.
